A medium-sized, short haired muscular cat, like the Somali, they have ticked coats with each hair marked with fine bands. Abys are bright, sweet-tempered, playful and have intelligent natures. Like the Somali, they can sometimes be a little reserved and make lovely companions. Their silky coats are easy to groom and come in a range of colours: usual (ruddy), sorrel, blue and fawn, silvers in these colours and also chocolate and lilac, red and tortie. Our foundation Abys were Mycene Howell Dha (usual male), Nishalka Inisha (usual female) and Wildsong Snowstorm (fawn female). From these beginnings we have also introduced some import lines from America and Europe. We have only bred a few litters of Abyssinians, and from these Aswani Hosta (owned by Stacie Shorten) has achieved show success with one CC to date. We breed usual, sorrel, fawn and blue Abyssinians and have just started with silver Abyssinians, working with other breeders in the “UnusualAbys group” (UnusualAbyCats.com) to help further develop and promote the more unusual colours in the UK.
